CMT Celebrates 40th Anniversary with Free Party in the Park

CHILDREN’S MUSICAL THEATER CELEBRATES 40TH ANNIVERSARY
WITH FREE PARTY IN THE PARK JUNE 28, 2008

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 12, 2008 – Celebrating 40 years of musical theater in San Jose, CMT today announced they will host a free “Party in the Park” on Saturday, June 28, 2008. Open to anyone and everyone, the party includes performances by Children’s Musical Theater performers , a sneak preview of the 2008/09 CMT season, multi media entertainment, children’s games and an enormous cake to feed the expected 3000 people attending the event. CMT was founded in 1968 to meet the needs for a San Jose-base community theater for children. Today, CMT is the largest theater group of its kind in the nation. The party takes place from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez in downtown San Jose.

“What started as a part-time summer theater in San Jose is now a nationally acclaimed performing arts training and education center with over 1, 200 youth performers and 42,000 audience members each year,” said Rosemary Heath managing director at CMT. “We want all of our San Jose families to celebrate with us and to experience what CMT is all about: community, family and fun.”

“At CMT the process for casting our musicals is open to all children and young adults. Everyone who auditions gets a part,” said Kevin Hauge, artistic director at CMT. “We wanted the same approach to carry over to this great celebration. This is the biggest party we have ever thrown and it was important to share our success with everyone in our community.”

Party in the Park is being generously underwritten by Target Corporation. Additional sponsors include NBC11 and KFOX radio.
