Auditions
The following are our age guidelines:
Children ages 8-13 may audition for Rising Star productions.
Children ages 14-20 may audition for Mainstage productions.
Alumni and local professionals may audition for Marquee Productions.
Welcome to Children’s Musical Theater! We are thrilled you have chosen to be a part of one of our productions.
Our auditions are offered for two to three days, depending on the production. Please arrive at our Rehearsal Hall/Administrative Office on the day which best suits your schedule on or before the posted time.
If you are new to the CMT audition process, we encourage you to participate on the second day where we will focus on new families. Our mandatory pre-audition meeting will be geared towards giving you the answers to the most frequently asked questions as well as giving individual attention to those with concerns that we haven’t anticipated. We realize that auditioning for the first time can be overwhelming and we want to take the anxiety out of the process by addressing your questions early. Seasoned parent volunteers will be available to answer any and all questions.
Please print out the Audition Packet and bring to the CMT office day of audition.
Here is what you can expect during the audition process:
Please be aware that the total audition process may take a total of two to three hours.
The audition process is broken down into four steps in order to provide our aspiring performers and their families the best possible introduction to performing with CMT.
Information Meeting
Every audition begins with a mandatory meeting for both the performers and their parent(s)/guardian(s). During this meeting, veteran parents will speak about their experiences with CMT, and will explain what to expect during the course of a production for the performers and their families.
Participants will receive an audition packet, conflict calendar, general rehearsal schedule and the CMT Policies and Guidelines. Before moving onto the second phase of auditions, all forms must be completed.
Conflicts Calendar Review
The second phase of the audition is a one-on-one review of your completed conflicts calendar with a production representative. The purpose of the conflicts calendar is to ensure expectations are set between the performer, the performer's family and CMT. Please be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns that you have about your schedule with your production representative at that time.
Registration
Once all forms are completed and a conflicts calendar has been approved and signed, performers are ready to register for their audition. Each performer will be assigned a registration number and an audition time. At this time, all forms and tuition fees will be collected and the performer’s photo will be taken.
Audition
Performers will audition in groups of 10. Each group learns and then performs a short dance combination. Individuals will then have an opportunity to perform a prepared song.
The final audition step is to read a line or series of lines from the production that each performer received in their audition packet.
Congratulations! You have completed your audition!
Callbacks
Immediately following the audition, production representatives may ask specific performers to come back later in the week to audition further for specific roles. The remainder of the performers are considered cast in the show. The director of the show will let everyone know when the final cast list will be posted.
If your have a conflict with the callback auditions, please inform the director at the time of your audition.
