About Shannon

SHANNON SELF, CMT alumna and full-time Artistic Manager, has taught musical theater, dance, and acrobatics at CMT for over ten years. She also directs, choreographs, and occasionally performs for CMT. In addition to the artistic side, Shannon oversees all ten of CMT’s production workshops every year. Outside of CMT, Shannon has performed with companies like AMTSJ, Theatrical Arts Int. in Los Angeles, and Lenape Regional Theater in Philadelphia. During her early residency here, Shannon was fortunate enough to head to Los Angeles to perform in and assist Artistic Director, Kevin R. Hauge, with Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. CMT directing/choreography credits include: Crazy For You, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Aladdin, The King & I, Wizard of Oz, Jesus Christ Superstar, Miss Saigon, The Boyfriend, Barnum, A Christmas Carol, Tom Sawyer, Bye Bye Birdie, Oliver, The Wiz, Guys and Dolls, Cinderella, Wind in the Willows, Fiddler on the Roof, and Heidi. Regional Choreography credits include: Ragtime in Concert (San Francisco), The Bracebridge Dinners (The Ahwahnee Hotel, Yosemite), Crazy for You (Archbishop Mitty High School), Grease (Gunn High School) and Brigadoon (King’s Academy). She also continues her collaborative work on Trilogy (Three Women Dancing), a new dance musical. Shannon has a bachelor's degree in theater and dance from Santa Clara University.

MARYTHERESA CAPRILES has been a part of Children’s Musical Theater San Jose since she was 12 years old. She continued performing with CMT through high school, appearing in more than a dozen shows. Since then, MaryTheresa has participated in various ways at CMT, including as an instructor of Studio Classes, Audition Workshops, and CMT Summer Camp; Rising Stars choreographer (Once Upon A Mattress, 2010); parent volunteer for shows that her daughters have done, including Props, Spots, and her favorite, Hair and Makeup; Summer Games Alumni participant (!) and performer (as often as possible). MT thoroughly enjoyed her role in the original Marquee Production of Chess (Svetlana) as well as in Chicago (Mona), Hairspray (Velma Von Tussle) and Disney’s When You Wish (Jane/Ensemble). Her all-time favorite role was Mrs. Wilkinson in the spring 2016 production of Billy Elliot, in which she was thrilled to share the stage with her youngest daughter, Ailey. Outside of CMT, MaryTheresa has performed locally with Broadway By the Bay, Cabrillo Stage, and TheatreWorks. Her favorite job ever was performing in The Kids of the Kingdom at Walt Disney World and following that, as a Special Events Dancer at Tokyo Disneyland. She has been dancing since age 3, studying the Royal Academy of Dance method of ballet, then later training at the San Francisco Ballet School. MaryTheresa still considers Marie Stinnett her dance teacher as she has studied jazz, tap and technique with her since she was a teenager. MaryTheresa has worked as a certified fitness instructor (Jazz and Step Aerobics, Cardio Kickboxing, Core Strength, BoSU) and is also a certified Qigong instructor. She currently practices and teaches this Chinese healing art at Morning Crane studio in Willow Glen. Mary Theresa majored in musical theatre at Northwestern University where she performed alongside David Schwimmer and worked with David Downs, Dominic Missimi and Sheldon Harnick. Her greatest joy in life is her three children, Aric (18), Ariana (15) and Ailey (13).

DEANNA KNUDSEN Entering her fourth season as CMT's Education Manager, Deanna manages many programs including summer camp, classes & workshops, student matinees, The Rita Moreno Awards, scholarships and more. She works with over 60 teaching artists, assistants and counselors each season to handcraft a robust training program for all ages of youth that compliments the work CMT does in its 10 seasonal productions. She joined the fun onstage in the Marquee production of Ragtime. Prior to CMT, Deanna held full-time positions at Pixar Animation Studios and WME Entertainment in Beverly Hills, and has worn a variety of hats at multiple Broadway, off-Broadway, West End, and regional theater companies. She holds a BFA in Theater Arts from Boston University where she performed in, directed, production managed and was otherwise involved in over a dozen shows, as well as ran a middle school theater program for which she was also an instructor. Beyond BU, her training was in NYC and her home state of New Jersey. She thinks fondly of her formative years in youth theater and loves that she gets to do this for a living! You can sometimes find her chasing her 1 year old in the studio hallways.
