Tickets on sale Jan 8

CMT Rising Stars take on Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s, Into the Woods a musical fairytale about wishes and the choices we make.

Some of the most memorable childhood fairytales come to life in a groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical.  Into the Woods JR. features all of your favorite characters — Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch — in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.

The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse, and wind up changed forever.

Read Bio

When he auditioned for Damn Yankees in the summer of CMT’s 28th season, Ian Leonard had no idea he would still be present for its 50th season, nor was he able to envision that this organization would be that place that he would call, most proudly, “Home.” Now more than 20 years later, Ian’s connection with Children’s Musical Theater San Jose marks one of the most treasured relationships of his life. He has directed several productions here at CMT, including The Sound of Music, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Evita, Bye Bye Birdie, and Starmites. He’s had the pleasure of collaborating with longtime mentor and CMT Artistic Director, Kevin Hauge, on shows like Hunchback of Notre Dame, American Idiot, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Jekyll & Hyde. As an actor, Ian appeared in the world premiere of Fly by Night (Harold McClam) at TheatreWorks, where he’s also played roles in [title of show], A Christmas Memory, Dessa Rose, and more. He recently played Rev. John Witherspoon in 1776 at American Conservatory Theatre, staged by Tony Award-winning director Frank Galati. In Legally Blonde (Diablo Theatre Company), he played Emmett opposite Broadway’s Bailey Hanks, winner of MTV’s Legally Blonde: The Search for Elle Woods. Ian co-founded, and appears regularly in, one of the Bay Area’s busiest (and most polite) cover bands, The Peelers. www.thepeelersband.com.
