December 1 – 10, 2017 • Marquee productions feature emerging artists from New York to the Bay Area and beyond.
CMT Marquee Productions wraps up a holiday gift for young and old alike: the West Coast non-union regional premiere of Disney’s NEWSIES The Musical!
Based on the 1992 musical film, inspired by a true story, NEWSIES takes us back to the New York City newsboy strike of 1899. Jack Kelly, the charismatic leader of a ragtag band of paperboys, dreams of a life far from the hardship of the streets. But when ruthless publishing titans raise prices at the boys’ expense, Jack rallies “newsies” from across the city to strike, take a stand and fight.
With catchy music and high-energy choreography, this David-and-Goliath struggle will charm and inspire you!
NEWSIES won the Tony Award for Best Original Score, with songs like “Santa Fe,” “Seize the Day” and “King of New York”

Shedenhelm is thrilled to be passing the torch to another
generation of Newsies! As an original cast member in the world
premiere of Newsies at Papermill Playhouse, the opportunity to bring
his own choreography to this show is a challenge and an honor. Raised
in GA, Scott was classically trained in ballet and modern dance at
Walnut Hill School of Performing Arts in MA. He moved to NYC in 2009
to pursue musical theater, performing regionally in shows like The Little
Mermaid (North Shore); favorite roles include Mike in A Chorus Line and
Baby John in West Side Story (Riverside), Barnaby Tucker in Hello,
Dolly! (ABT) and Action in West Side Story (Engeman). Scott was a
dancer for Warren Carlyle in the preproduction of Hello, Dolly! on
Broadway, and most recently completed the spring 2017 cycle of
Broadway Dance Lab, both of which not only instilled a desire to help
others develop new works, but also reinvigorated the ambition to
create his own choreography! These Newsboys deliver an important
message to kids and young adults that should resonate for all of us:
your voice matters, and as long as we stand together, we can overcome
any obstacle. Thank you to everyone at CMT, the cast and crew; and
many thanks to Kevin. Love to Adrienne, my family and Newsies
